Obituary to Ku-ngo Gyatsho Tshering la (1936 - 2009)

 

A self-effacing scholar and gentleman who sacrificed his prime life for the services of His Holiness and His people

 

Gyatsho Tsering, Former Director of LTWAKungo la, an honorific title that he truly deserved to be called, and for others he was popularly known as Gyatsho la, left this earthly world on 25 June 2009 in the USA. He served the Library of Tibetan Works & Archives (LTWA) as the Director from 1972 until his retirement in 1998. Kungo la was born in 1936 at Gangtok in the Indian state of Sikkim to Lobsang Lama and Nyima Dolma. After the completion of his secondary studies at a Government school in Darjeeling he went to Calcutta, now known as Kolkata, to pursue further studies in humanity where he earned Bachelor's degree in honours. After the completion of his studies he served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Home Ministry of the Government of India as a First Class public servant. While he was in the former ministry he also served at the Indian Mission in Lhasa, Tibet.

July 20 - October 20: The fourth three-month Intensive Translation Program will be held from 20th July to 20th October 2009 at LTWA.

  • September 3 -September 5: International Conference on Tibetan studies and Himalayan Studies organised by LTWA will be held in Dharamsala.
  • September 14 to September 24, 2009: LTWA Director, Geshe Lhakdor la will pay a visit to South America and Mexico organised by -- Office of Tibet, South America; Tecnologico de Monterrey and Consejo de valores (Council of Valued of the City)

The LTWA offers you free online buddhist classes

online-lesson-1a-start-page-special.jpgThe Library of Tibetan Works and Archives (LTWA) offers daily Buddhist philosophy classes to help people appreciate and understand ‘truth' and help them deal with daily problems. The classes are taught by Geshes who are highly qualified in Buddhist philosophy and have dedicated a major part of their lives to study and practice.
